I am a competitive gymnast with chronic back pain.Story: Two years ago they thought i fractured my lower back, but it was only sprained. I helped it within a year by ice, heat, physical therapy, and taking time off from gymnastics. It stayed healthy for another year, until i went to an intensive training camp this summer where we practiced at least 8 hours a day for a whole week. After i came back, the pain was in a new area, my middle/ upper back and it was so intense i couldnt get out of bed, no position was comfortable. I thought it would get better if i took a semi break from practicing (i was anyway because of two stress fractured heels). Since then its been numerous months, and im in the middle of my competition season so i cant take anymore breaks. My back pain has not improved, it brings me to tears numourus times a day and the chiropracter cant see me for a few months. I dont know what to do till then, ive tried heat, ice....etc., nothing works, including pain killers, HELP!?

Forget the chiropractor. You've got to see an orthopedic doctor ASAP since you say nothing else works anymore for you. You may have a disc problem and no better way to confirm it than by MRI which I am sure the doctor will arrange for you. Slipped discs are quite common in gymnasts who stress their backs quite severely.

Taking aspirin will help to relieve general aches and pains, including, to some degree, pain from sunburn; however, the best type of pain treatment for sunburn will be a topical cream. I have found that aloe vera gel works quite well. If the burn is severe, you should see your doctor. He will most likely give you a prescription for Silverdine cream. It has healing and soothing qualities.

A lot of back problems can typically be caused by having weak abdominal muscles. Part of your daily training needs to be ab work. Not just crunches. Your physical therapist should be able to give you a bunch of exercises to help strengthen your abs.

And stop seeing the chiropractor. While there are some good ones out there, they are better at covering up the symptoms of an injury rather than fixing it.

Rene B and ask me are both right and when you go to the orthopedic doctor or your family doctor ask them if they can prescribe a muscle relaxer of some nature. If it is a slipped disc, these will help. I have neck problems and they help me a great deal with pinched nerves in my neck. Good luck.

It sounds like it's time for you to go see the ortho doctor, preferably a specialist of the spine. If it's something really bad it is only going to get worse the longer you wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
