What does it mean when some one attempts to stop bad situations. If two people A and B are about to fight and another person , C , attempts to stop them , What would that person be called?

Please don't say "A bad situation stopper!".

Options include advocate, arbiter, arbitrator, broker, conciliator, fixer, go-between, interagent, interceder, intermediary, intermediator, judge, medium, middleman, moderator, negotiator, peacemaker, referee, and umpire... to name just a few. Also possible: alien, busybody, buttinsky, crasher, gate-crasher, intermeddler, intruder, meddler, obtruder, trespasser, uninvited guest, unwanted visitor.
