if I wanted to be pro se, represent myself, how do I petition the court to suspend the remaining sentence and on what grounds would I use?

Good Behaviour, No addition convictions since the prior. Go to the Law Library and find case law.

Even if you want to be pro se, you can still seek the advice of counsel, including the public defender if you qualify. You can represent yourself and have an attorney with you...but if you are worried about your sentence, you should get a lawyer.

Talk to the Public Defender
You can file a supersedeas bond which can have the effect of freezing your case pending appeal.
Pro se defense is a dangerous game.

If it is a serious case, I would find a good lawyer. The DA loves busting someone who doesnt know what they are doing, throw them more time or make them pay more money or fees. AT least thats how it works in GA, they know how to bust that ***
