I've got about 25 cds I want to load to my iPod. Do have to load all of them to my laptop first?

Yeah man. You will need first to put all your CDs into your computer, Then in your Computer you will need to put them into iTunes.
Then next time you hook up your iPod to your computer all the music you put in iTunes will transfer to iPod.

Good luck to you and Merry Christmas

First, you need to load ("rip") both CDs to iTunes. Then create a songlist that contains both CDs, Then move that songlist to you iPod.

Note that the new songlist will replace the current content of your iPod - as you found out.
