the cold air normally circulates down the back inside of the unit. Check to see if something is blocking the airflow. Is the freezer cold?

The coil can be in the back or in the bottom. There is a fan that circulates air across the coil to get rid of the heat from the refrigerant. Is is called the condensor coil. Over time, dirt and animal hair can plug up the fins of the coil preventing the air from moving across it. Most hardware stores sell coil brushes for cleaning them. Keep a vaccum handy with a thin nozzle. Remove the bottom grill by pulling gently or looking for atachment screws. You may also need to pull the fridge out and remove the back panel at the bottom. Vacuum, brush, vacuum brush until it's clean. Unplug the fridge first. With dogs shedding, this can happen in a matter of 1-2 months.

The fridge either needs to be re-charged with Freon, or the synthetic Freon that has taken the place of Freon, since freon has been banned (but a licensed HVAC person still might access to Freon). The only other thing could be that you overloaded the fridge or the freezer with food, and the cold air can't circulate, making the fridge work too hard. I keep a 5 pound bag of ice in my freezer, to make it work not as hard..it maintains a more even temperature...

Your refrigerator has 2 control knobs. One for the temperature and one that diverts the freezer air to the refrigerator. Therefore if the freezer is too cold some of that excess cold air can be diverted back to the fridge.

The knob on my Whirlpool fridge is lettered A-E with letter A allowing the most amount of cold air into the fridge.

clean the condenser, years of dust pile and if there is not enough air flow and the fridge wont work right. try to clean under there every 6 month or less because the harder your fridge works the more eletricity it uses

if the freezer is cold then you have a problem with either the defrost timer, thermostat, element, or the fan. see if you can hear or feel air blowing in the lower cmpartment if not, remove the bottom liner and look for ice/ frost inside it will block air flow from freezer down to the lower section

it might be because its working too much, stop opening the fridge all the time. There might be too much stuff in there which you dont really need so you have to get rid of them.

If your refrigerator has been around awhile, check to see if dust has collected on the coils in the back. You can vacuum the coils to increase the efficiency of the appliance.
