I guess that would depend on how much better the benefit package is and how much closer to home it is. You also have to ask yourself how stable your job is now and do you enjoy working with the people you work with now. Also, which company has more room for advancement because your right...starting over sucks.

I took a job with more pay, just a little closer to home, a better benefits package and more room for advancement. Seemed like a win win situation but I hate it. I really enjoyed the people I worked with and don't like the ones I now work with...makes a huge difference. Unfortunately there is no way to guarantee that you will blend with the employees of the new company. Going to work should be enjoyable and not feel like a prison sentence. I wish you luck.

Depending upon the amount of time that you have invested in your current position, I'd advise you to take it. It sounds like you would be improving yourself. If it is closer to home, your travel expenses will be less, therefore a raise in pay. The benefits are better, so you are ahead in that respect. Starting over is always difficult, but you started somewhere else before this, and you may do it again. Good luck.

I would advise that you hold off and make sure this is the work that you want to do. If the salary is the same, do you see growth in the future, else will you might feel frustrated.
The short commute is always good but if you don't have the job satisfaction you want, you will be looking for a new job sooner than you think.
If you feel that you are ready for a change, research the market and see what excites you about your work. If you have ideas for the kind of work you would rather be doing, this is an opportunity to move in that direction.

Hope this helps , all the best.

Starting over does suck... but if I were closer to home AND have better benefits, then starting over is a sacrifice I would be willing to make!

good luck!

honestly yes.....better benefits will pay off in the long run and closer to home means less gas money. Starting over isn't that bad...you get to meet new ppl.

I did the same thing 8 years ago. It worked for me. I love being close to home. Yes, starting over is hard, but you'll adjust in no time. Just remember, work is work. Good luck.

You're right, change does suck. Having to learn new protocols, learn a new system, meet new people.

But when it means a shorter commute and better benefits. It's worth giving it a shot.

Up to you but here's something that helps me. Make a sheet with a pros and cons column and list everything you can think of in each spot to help you decide including how well you get along with your current boss and co-workers. It really will help you to be able to look at it on paper. Good luck!

Yes.

So long as you're not running out on your current job too quickly and have been there a year or two - no one likes to hire someone who has a history of job-hopping - then do it. Experience is good.
