I'm from Eastern Europe, so here's the reason:

We don't have sufficient funding for soccer. We are all developing countries. We had to fight communism for many, many years. Hitler and Mussolinni did not ruin their countries like Tito, Milosevic, and Stalin did. Communism was in the Eastern countries until the early '90s.We are still developing slowly. These countries here are always (right now) on the verge of wars. There is much hate between the countries, especially in the Balkans (where I'm from). We actually spend more money to corrupt the gov't and make it seem like it was other countries instead of feeding us and developing into "high tech" countries such as Germany, Italy, France, U.S., and GB.

But all in all, it's the money my friends.

By the way, I have 3 cousins that were/are pro. 2 stopped playing and 1 is still playing. He is actually looking to get out of Croatia and move onto Israel where they pay him a buttload more. Yes, Israel, lol.

Because development in Eastern Europe was restricted during the Cold War era (which ended in the late 80s). So in truth most of Eastern Europe are only starting to develop their sporting infrastructure now, as opposed to Western Europe who have been playing and developing sport for many many years.

Western Europe is just a more developed society with better opportunities for younger players to grow up with better programs and coaches than are available in Eastern European countries.

Eastern Europe is poorer the don't have the same opportunities as the western's and there isn't much money to make their domestic league intresting.

Because western players get proper training and opportunities from their childhood.
As they develop as a player, they have access to better sponsors, better facilities, better training and also more competitions and exposure.
In some cases, they are at physical advantage as well, because most of the countries are developed.
