oh yeah think about it, grand theft auto liberty city stories ps2 disc on play station 3, and burn out reveange, and grand theft auto: San andreas on ps3! that'd be awesomous majore graphics...
if play station 1 discs can play on playstation 2 colstone, then play station 2 discs can play on play station 3, OH YEAH!

Yes it does. The good thing about this is that you can play your old games with better graphics. Though some games have been reported not being able to play.
