I get a lot of ear infections about 5 a year, they took my tonsil out hoping I would not have so many, But sometimes they last a week after taking the meds , ( take all your meds) Z-Pack works the best, you can get that from your Dr.

It's only been 3 days today that you went. It actually takes that amount of time before your antibiotic starts to work. Give it more time yet. A couple of days at the most and you should have some relief. You waited a long time so you probably have a bad one going on. And take all of your meds. It's gonna do you no good if you start to feel better and forget the last few days of meds. Alot of people do that and do not understand that it is bad to do that. It can re-occure. Feel Better! And Merry Christmas!

I had the same thing and I went to the doctor and they did this thing they called the elephant ear on me and it squirted cold water in and cleaned everything out of it. It worked and then I took some ear drops and it cleared it right up. If that doesn't help I would say to do ear candling it is a funnel they light on fire and blow it out the smoke goes in and acts like a vacume and sucks all the junk in it out it really works!!!

This happens to me frequently and in fact, I am having dizziness from inner ear difficulties right now. The medication your doctor has prescribed is routine. Sometimes the hairs in the inner ear can be affected by a virus or some other event and they must be "reset."

Once this passes, be sure you don't use q-tip to clean your ear canals. This presses wax against the ear drum. Use peroxide and flush with warm water. I use an "elephant ear wash" spray bottle. Google search for this. (I discovered it during a visit to an MD's office for ear infection)

I had chronic ear infections throughout childhood and into young adulthood.

Sometimes they were longer but usually in the 3-5 day range to clear.

I stopped having chronic infections when I moved to L.A. and my otolaryngologist (ear guy) said to use a 50:50 solution of isopropyl alcohol and white vinegar in my ears as an antibacterial and drying agent.

Since that last infection I have never had another.

I find that using anhydrous alcohol in the white vinegar mix is better for me.

Hope this helps.

Yes - my son had ear infections so bad as a baby he had speech problems as he got older. The doctor said he was hearing things as if he were under water. He had to have tubes to correct the problem.
Use a warm compress on the side of your head that is infected - it should help.
Next time, don't wait 6 weeks! Feel better!

This is normal. My ear was deaf for about 4 weeks and it was the most annoying thing. I finally had to take a Z-PAC to clear up the infection. You should defiantly be taking a suedafed (spelling?) or something to dry up the infection. Just take one every four to six hours and it really helps dry up the infection and helps the drainage process. I didn't know this and when I took them it really helped get my hearing back.

Mine took about the same time, you just have to be patient. It'll go away when you finish all of your medication. If it's the pain you're worried about just take some tylonel and you'll be fine. If you're like me and wont eat it cause it tastes bad, take some advil.
