You could make soap or cheese. (both would be interesting projects.) Making soap involves mixing a highly basic material with animal fat and water. If you want to make hard soap use sodium hydroxide, liquid use potassium hydroxide. Oxi boost cleaners use peroxides as their base. Cheese is a chemical reaction between the different components of milk and an acid. (Generally the acid is produced by bacteria that are added to the milk.) Maybe not interesting to an 11th grade class but if it bombs you can always eat the cheese. Or you could make soap, use salt to drop the glycerin out of the mixture and then make home made nitroglycerin. (That's my fave and you still get free soap.) Yours truly,

Yo need: Cake pan,warm water,Epsom salt,scissors,food color.
This is one of the fastes les toxic methods of growing crystals
! First a suny day isn't required, but help!you want rapid evaporation of water to form, the crystals,so elect a warm dry place to grow crystals,(sunny porch or window.
2cut the paper so that fit in the bottom of the pan.
3Add 1 tablespoon of EXON SALT,to 1/4,cup of warm water , stir until salt is dissolved.
4.Put the paper in the pan and pour the salt solution over the papper
5.Put the pan in the place you habe selected, for crystal growing, as the water evaporates, you 'll see lots of sparky crystals..
Habe fun!,use a magnifying glass to see your creation up close.

You can explore on what causes the taste and odours of different food, such as spices. It is a very interesting project to work on, trust me. I did that before and you can make it in the form of a magazine!
