The toddler years are a time of transition, especially between 12-24 months, when they're learning to eat table food and accepting new tastes and textures. Breast milk and formula provided adequate nutrition for your child as an infant, but now it's time for your toddler to start getting what he or she needs through a variety of foods.

Grains 3 ounces (85 grams), half from whole- grain sources
Vegetables 1 cup
Fruits 1 cup
Milk 2 cups (475 milliliters)
Meat & Beans 2 ounces (60 grams)

Toddlers should have 7 milligrams of iron each day. After 12 months of age, toddlers are at risk for iron deficiency because they no longer drink iron-fortified formula and may not be eating iron-fortified infant cereal or enough other iron-containing foods to make up the difference.

We all know that children should eat less than adults. After all, they are smaller. The following are some serving size guidelines for a 1- to 2-year old that may help you out.

Milk/Dairy: Servings: 16 - 20 ounces of milk per day. Whole milk, soy or rice milk are recommended. Other equivalents: 1/2 - 3/4 ounce of cheese = 4 ounces of milk. 1/4 cup of yogurt = 2 ounces of milk.

Fruits and veggies: Servings: 5 or more per day. Serving size: 1 - 2 tablespoons - Pureed, mashed, or cubed.

Grains: Servings: 3 - 4 per day. Serving sizes: 1/2 slice of bread, 1/4 cup of cooked cereal, 1/4 cup of dry cereal. 1/4 cup of pasta, 2 - 3 saltine crackers, or 1/2 tortilla.

Non-dairy Proteins (meat, fish, beans, eggs): Servings: 2 per day. Serving sizes: 1/2 egg, 2-3 tablespoons beans (i.e., black, pinto, edamame, etc.), 1 tablespoon peanut butter, or 1 ounce of fish, lean beef, pork, or chicken.

An 18 month old should be at the table with the rest of the family -in a highchair or booster- and eating what is served to everyone else. Meat cut in small pieces and cooked vegetables; pbj sandwich for lunch; instant oatmeal or dry cereal for breakfast; anything that you eat would probably work fine except maybe steak which can be hard for children to chew.

My son got to a point where he wouldnt eat any baby food. He was about 10 months old. He had about 6 teeth by then. How many teeth does your child have? When I began feeding him regular food I would give him soft things: cheese, hot dogs, fruit, vegetables, ravioli, spaghetti. All of these things are easy to cook too. Now he is 21 months old and he eats everything that we eat (he has all of his teeth)

why? most kids start finger foods around 9months. there is lots of finger foods that don't involve cooking. cereals, can fruit and veggies.
easy things too cook is mashed potato's, mac and cheese.
also there are lots of frozen dinners(not the best but a complete meal) that are not that much money.
at her age she should be able to eat just about anything that you do.

In the superstore, fruits are usually selected much too soon. Some are rocks, many are wrong. Some of the fruit and vegetables are right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.
