Do you think we should bring all of our troops home?

Or, do you think we should try to "win" this war?

Explain, please.

The war in Iraq is not something that can be won with military forces. It is an age old conflict that has been around since the time of Abraham in the area of Iraq.

To GW, it looked like a quick winnable war that could insure his election and at the same time secure the oil supply. After the invasion, he was so sure it was over that he had the big "Mission Accomplished" announcement.

Our major problems today is a president that got us into this war with false information. The Military can destroy an army or a country, but cannot fight terrorist. If you were a terrorist, would a tank going down your street or the whole US Army coming to your town cause you fear? Only people can fight terrorist by identifying them to local police. Today, only the military is at war. If our leaders want to win politically, they cannot involve the voters by setting up mandatory neighborhood watches to help identify terrorist. They cannot set lower driving speeds so our use of oil will be lowered at least 15%. In 1965 we had vehicles that were to be used by all military that used water for a fuel. That had to be stopped. It would have ruined everything if oil was not needed to operate vehicles. We must continue to use oil because many people depend on the income from oil to continue to be rich and powerful.

Do you think the war in Iraq is possible to win?

NO, but it is possible for our country to go the way of the Roman Empire. We are not invincible ! The power is with the people. We must all be at war and united against terrorist around the world and in office.

the conflict that is occurring in Iraq is on going...many people look at the conflict like a war...like the wars that have occurred in the past...this is completely different..the ethnic violence is much like what occurred in the Yugoslavia...There is no military solution..it must be political. And when a political solution is arrived at..there are no winners and no losers...the killing just stops. Unfortunately most civil wars are resolved when the people just get tired of killing. The U.S. problem: U.S. government contributed to the instability that exists there, by removing a tyrannical dictator, and feels responsible for the results. I think that the government should seek a political solution involving any who could help. I also think that the whole middle east should be look at as being involved...the Palestinian issues, Iran, Israel, and nuclear weapons.....The troops that are there are just doing their best to stay alive...removing them will not solve the conflict...things would just get worse. I believe that the troops should have what ever resources to increase their security. A strong political effort should also be Incorporated..Remember that Iraq is a country that has the potential of solving many of the problems that exist in this world...far beyond what many people understand...It is where the Arabs and the Persians come together with the Kurds and the Turks..its a buffer between Israel and Iran (both of which have nuclear weapon/potential)..It is the place where history probably began...it is the place where humanity first established rules....Abandoning Iraq, might just as well mean abandoning the entire middle east region...the most significant region in the world for the U.S....The conflict must be resolved with handshakes and dialog...not steel and flesh.

There is better way to look at whole picture .

1. The war wasn't at all necessary in Iraq - No WMD and NO reason for invading Iraq , even if then have WMD who are we to invade another country ? Are we given authority to police the world ? when we are the first country to use a WMD .

2. We lost more than 3000 of troops for nothing , not sure that we will get uninterrupted supply of oil .

3. We went in without an exit plan.

4.Poor planning and foresight on the part of Americans ...are we inviting terrorism on us by making Iraq unsafe .

Huge Huge blunder financially and politically ,the world started to feel that Saddam was an angel !

God save America !

at present it may be confusing yet interior the previous many armies gained wars on foreign places soil. at present its diverse, we ought to combat interior the guidelines and that's the only distinction. do away with the guidelines and ban the media and its a various storey, useful you ought to have some militants who think of they could make a distinction yet without rules they does not final long. whilst an occupied united states of america knows that the persons in charge do no longer mess approximately maximum will comply as historic previous a has shown, they might no longer like it yet whilst its a call between a bullet interior the top or do as your instructed they wont argue. there's no place for rules in war IMO, whats the think approximately struggling with a war with one hand tied in the back of your back, in case you ought to combat interior the guidelines yet your enemy does not your gonna lose. Its time we binned the guidelines, take the gloves off and supply our enemy's a good pasting. The Romans had the the suitable option thought, kill each and every thing that strikes, undertaking solved.

What war do you speak of?

Aren't we occupying the country as we speak?

The war is over,... its now sectarian violence, a brewing civil war, and an insurgency we aare dealing with...

The only way to beat that or "win" in that case,.. would be to send more troops over,. enough to occupy the entire country as a whole, and devide it into governates,... then,. as they become secure,... slowly shifting power back,... this will take a long long long loooooooooong time though,... but its not impossible,.. the british have historically done this with many many other countries,...

It could work,.. it won't happen though,. because the curretn status is not popular, and thus sending enough troops won't occur, and thus it will be a half assed job for a while as it already is,...

Think about it,.. what good are elections, and voting, and an iraqi military and police force, if the country still isn't "secure"?

It needs to be secured first, and then fixed,. not the other way around,. but good luck making that happen... it won't,.. so were screwed.... :(

The military can win the conflict in Iraq but the politicians in this country must give them the authorization to fight the war as needed, other politicians need to do more than provide lip service about 'supporting the troops' and then calling them "stupid" and "baby killers" in the media. The media needs to report what is really going on in Iraq instead of leading each day with 'blood and guts' articles/broadcasts. And the media also needs to be impartial and report the facts, not their opinion presented as fact.
If the Iraqi peopel really want to enjoy the opportunity for freedom that we've presented them, they need to take responsibility and turn on the terrorist that are using car bombs, etc. to kill their citizens.

with all due respect US started this mess by invading Iraq using as a reason the possiblity that Saddam Hussein was manufacturing nuclear weapons.

in the end no such weapons were found. the easy part was throwing saddam hussein, now the country is in serious disarray and violence between sunis and shias is growing.

this country has suffered with the sanctions imposed by the US, then by the people who died as "collateral damage" in the invasion, now with the civil unrest. it is the US who is now supporting a shia leader even if saddam and the majority of the iraqi population is suni... thus the mess.

i understand average US citizen is tired of seeing their boys die in the country, so the way of fixing the problem is not withdrawing the troops but voting for different US leaders, who think twice before making war and its consequences.

War; is a fight. Nobody wins a fight. Everybody loses in fights. That is not to say some fights aren't worth fighting. For example, we fight for our freedom. If I go to school and somebody decides he will tell me what I will and will not do simply because it is his will, I will consider him a bully and I will fight for my right to make my own decisions, whether it's to carry and keep my lunch money or walk unmolested across campus. I will pay a price for standing up for my rights, but he will also pay a price for trying to impede my rights and trying to force his will on me.

The same is true on a much larger scale in regard to terrorism. We are not fighting in Iraq because of oil, or forcing our will on Iraq, but because members in power in the Iraqi government supported terrorism inflicted on our culture trying to force their will on us.

Win; means to interrupt the terrorists' ability to force their will on us. When Iraqi democracy has assumed responsibility for their own freedom, we will have won in Iraq. This business of talking about pulling out of Iraq is ridiculous. Yes war is terrible. Yes we have lost 3000 of our brave troops in Iraq. But we lost many times that in our struggle against Japan and many times that in our struggle against Germany and many times that in our struggle against North Korea and guess what?!! we are still there in each of those countries guaranteeing our freedom.

We must remain in Iraq until the same accomplishments made by the so called 'greatest generation' in Japan Germany and Korea are made by this generation in Iraq and anywhere else that terrorism finds support. More importantly, we must win this propaganda war on main street America before anything can be accomplished elsewhere.

I think that it was very bad timing but needed to be done. Clinton tried to do the same thing by taking Saddam out of power and didn't succeed. This delayed the purpose which was taken up by Bush. Now that we are constructing a country that is torn by their support for us maybe we should let them be.

Can't be won. We're not even fighting a real military, just a bunch of terrorists. No matter how many terrorists we kill there will always be more to take their place. Regardless of the outcome, no one wins this war.
