Britain is more popular.

The British are more well known in the world especially in the Middle East and Asia for business, projects, finance and had a big colonial spread for a long time.
The French were more concentrated on West Africa but not as well spead as the British influence.
Probably the British are more popular because they and their culture and humour are better known and their language more widespread.
As for the people themselves - I think the French are OK people

Before the Iraq war I would have said Britain without hesitation. But now I'm not so sure.
I like the French lots anyway and have a few french friends. They don't share the British sense of humour the same way though.
So it's a toughie. On balance I'd say probably still Britain but that's cos the Americans seem to like us and they are a big nation...

Briatin, but on because this is the ONLY nation on Earth whose leaders care more about the great unwashed pond life clan than the hard working law abiding citizens!

If you look from the prism of recent past, French are emerging as the true leader of the EU and her policies are based on independent and rational thinking. Whereas Britain is following blindfoldedly the US polices which most of the peaceful people of the world abhors.

WIth our craven leader and his Monica Lewinsky like relationship with Bush, it is now certainly the French almost anywhere outside the US.

Britain, because the French have a tendancy to surrender...not just in wars, in day to day life really.
