There are many ways to travel on a budget. It depends where, when and how you will travel. You can save money on just about every aspect of a vacation or road trip. I have been traveling for over 7 years almost every week and have many ideas. Here are some basic ones.
1. Do your homework. Search the net for deals and travel tips.
2. Plan on about $30 per day for food. If you don't use it all, roll it into the next day.
3. If you are young, try staying at Youth Hostels. But be sure you check them out on line, most are good, but some can be not so good.
4. If oversee's, exchange money carefully, Rates can change daily, and by location. Watch out for scams.
5. Finally, check the web for travel networks. I once saw a site that allowed people to network so that when they traveled, they could sleep on someones couch. The web site was, www.sleeponmycouch.com or something like that. IT sounded really cool and a really efficient way to travel.

One of the biggest travel expenses is food. My husband and I always try to stock up on things like ham, cheese, and bread at a local supermarket. It's stupid to spend $5-$10 per person each day on breakfast when you can just make a sandwich in the morning. Especially when a lot of hotels (particularly in Europe) charge a fortune for breakfast. I also like to stock up on water and soda. In Europe, a lot of cafes charge over $5 for one glass of coke!

Walk or ride your bike saves. Ride a bus instead of doing a plane. Stay in a State Park if you can do a tent or a Hostel. Sleep in your car. Instead of staying in 5 star resorts stay in the smaller Mom and Pop places... Go to cheaper destinations instead of Hawaii go to Bahamas or something...
Or just stay home and enjoy the neighborhood like you haven't done before...
