my first epidural did not work so they did a second one and after that i was able to push but i felt no contractions whatsoever, my nurse told me when i was having them and when to push. They cut my epidural off before he was born b/c they said my pushes were not good enough. i had him before it wore off luckily.

I have heard that having an epi makes it more likely that you will have trouble pushing and that sometimes you need a little help (like the suction that the dr applies to the head). However, you will still feel the pressure to push, you just may not know how much or how little because of the difference of feeling down there. That said, I know I'm getting one...I've got no pain tolerance :)

oh yes you can still push. It's a little harder to feel the urge but the nurses will tell you when your having a contraction and will tell you when to push. I had an epidural, started pushing, and had my son in 15 min.

Yes. It is a bit more difficult and usually the nurse or your coach will have to tell you when you are having a contraction...but YES you can still push. Hundreds of women have epidurals everyday and they do just fine.
Good luck and Congrats!

Yes. I pushed 3 babies out with epi and I never had any trouble knowing when to push. I wouldn't have a baby without it.

Oh you will feel the urge to push just like someone who didn't have an epi. No pain though. It is great.

Yes you can you'll still feel a lil bit of pain though, cause they can eas the pain of your body, but when your pushing you feel the pain of your bones moving. So don't think it's not working

if you couldnt push you wouldnt have a baby, its not going to slide out of there on its own.

Of course you can push. You just lose the feeling of pain in your belly and nether regions.

Yes. I felt pressure but not pain. Also you will be hooked up to a machine that measures contractions so you will be able to tell when one is coming and when it is gone from that.
