The flag started out as a french flag. Later when the slaves got their independence they saw no reason to keep the french flag. They kept the colors and the blue represented freedom and unity and the red represented the blood that was spilled by the freedom fighters. They took the french picture off and but their own image on. The picture is the coat of arms of the Haitian country with the words L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE on it. It means through unity we find strength. For most the flag is a symbol for freedom from slavery.

In The United States for example, teenagers whether in High School give homage to the red and blue by carrying it around with them or on their persona for at least a week. Haiti’s flag’s origin is tightly linked to a history of struggle for freedom.

Not exactly sure but I know it has to do with their war for independance. Each thing is suppose to represent something from the war.
