Sounds like you have too many programs trying to start at the same time and your pc doesnt have enough working memory. Thats a guess by the way!

Norton anti virus uses way too much of the system resources. That is why people are guiding you toward AVG free. I had Norton for quite some time until I started having problems, I ran a check on individual .exe files in " windows system 32" and found several Trojans that Norton did not find through a complete scan. I figured, why pay for something that doesn't work? AVG found a lot of other viruses and removed them. Ad-Aware, Spy-bot Search & Destroy, and Windows Defender are other free programs that work fairly well also.

It's a problem with one or more of your Windows files. Try starting in safe mode. If this is OK, the problem is a driver.
One of the boot options (Press F8 after the BIOS flash) is to create a bootlog file. Select this and keep booting until it works. Then have a look at bootlog.txt and it will show the problem file.

AVG is pretty good, but remeber not to automatically remove all supposed 'viruses'. Some can be legitimate files, so check them to make sure.
