According to my last period I should be 8 weeks pregnant. But according to my first ultrasound yesterday, the baby is 11 weeks. Could I have gotten pregnant before my period?

The first day of my last period was 8 weeks ago. That period lasted 6 days, so I don't think that was implantation bleeding. My previous cycle was very short (for me), only 25 days. And I was recovering from an early miscarriage 2 months prior. At the ultrasound yesterday, the doctor said the baby was measuring at 11 weeks. I really appreciate all the answers I am getting. This all seems curious to me, but I know the most important thing is that the baby looked normal.

you betchya. You can ovulate right before your period, and the egg is still only on its way to the uterus for the duration of your bleeding.
Heck, you can even get pregnant ON your period. I did. Its uncommon, but it surely happens.
Ultrasounds before 13 weeks are the most accurate way to date a baby. They take presidence over LMP and prior due dates. Dispite what anyone elses personal expereince or beliefs might be.

I had just the opposite..I too was recovering from a miscarriage three months prior and thought that I was about 11 weeks along according to my last period, but my ultrasound said 9 weeks! Chances are that your body was just a little out of whack after the miscarriage. Also, it is possible that the ultreasound was a bit off. Wait until the next one and see if the dates match up. (With mine they did and the first u/s was correct...but ya never know)
Don't worry so much about the dates...just enjoy this time and appreciate the fact that you are pregnant! :)
Good luck and Congrats!

It is possible. However you couldn't have had a period while pregnant because of the definition of period. You could have had implantation bleeding or have a sensitive cervix which caused bleeding that many women mistake for a period. Usually the u/s in the first trimester are much more accurate than those done later on. While your due date may change later on, I'd go with 11 weeks and be glad to skip 3 weeks ahead.

Yes and no. Your last "period" may have actually been implantation bleeding which usually occurs 6-10 days after fertilization, making in on target (or close to) your expected period date. This actually happened to me! The ultrasound is the most accurate way to date a pregnancy early on which is why it is performed. Congratulations and best of luck!!!

If only u have mentioned the lmp !!see, here is a calculation
gestational age by lmp is +/- 2 weeks, so u may be at 10 weeks [8+2]
gestational age by ultrasound in first trimester is +/- 1 week, so it may be 10 weeks [11-1]
I don't find any problem ! but it is also true that u may bleed a bit at ur scheduled date even after being concieved !

Are you counting from the first day of your last period and not from date of conception?
Some bleeding during early pregnancy is quite common and can be mistaken as a period.
Be pleased - you are now only one week away from 12 weeks when you can relax and tell everyone, so that's 3 weeks less than you thought!

It's very possible. Plus they can never actually tell when the baby is going to be born. I actually had 3 different due dates. Feb 11, 14, 18. They were all wrong. I had my son Jan 12th. They try to determine your due date by how big the baby is. And you can still have your period and be pregnant.

You could have, because some people do continue to get light periods over the course of their pregnancies, although this is rare. Or what you thought was your last period could have been implantation bleeding instead of a true period. Good luck to you!

That 11 weeks is just based off the baby's current size. That happens early in pregnancy. With my first child my due date ended up getting changed about 4 times. I ended up having him on the original due date by c-section
