I am planning a 7-day trip to London with wife and daughter in May 2007, and am looking for reasonably priced hotel accommodation in decent localities.
Can you please recommend some decent and safe hotels (suitable for a couple in their 50's and a 22 year old daughter from India) priced about 50 UKP per night for the three of us? What localities would you recommend I concentrate my search on?
The results on the net are quite mind-boggling.
Also, what is the meaning of "Single room, ensuite bathroom"?

The best value hotels in a great location are the ones by Earl's Court or Gloucester Road tube stations. That part of London is called Kensington and Chelsea.

You will never find a triple for 50 pounds, but you can find some at around 75 pounds.

I recommend the Kensington Court, or the Terstan, or Barkston Gardens. They are clean and have bathrooms in the room, but otherwise they are very basic.

There is so such thing as a hotel for about 50 GDP per night for all three of you. The lowest decent hotel I have ever come across is the Best Western. There is one directly behind Harrod's, which is a nice, central location to be in. I would not recommend staying at a hotel outside of London and driving in, because you have to pay a congestion charge and if you're not a local Londoner, it gets complicated to pay this charge.

Single room - means only one person. En suite bathroom means there is a bathroom inside your hotel room. If it doesn't say "en suite" then it means there is a bathroom outside that you have to share with other hotel guests.

A nice Victorian styled hotel near Buckingham Palace is called Jolly St Ermines. I liked it because it was a walk to everything unless it was raining and then I had to take a taxi. Not sure how much it is per night but the cost includes breakfast everyday. Not just continental breakfast either but a full breakfast.
