Outwardly, I think they would both say they have a good relationship, but they don't, politically or economically. Politically, the US is very critical of China's human right's record and is at odds with China claiming Taiwan is part of China. The US is also very critical of China's treatment of political disidents, who are routinely imprisoned for long periods of time, in very poor conditions. Also, economically, the US wants China to clamp down of the illegal pirating of movies and music on CD's and DVD's, as well as "knock off" fashion accessories, like Coach handbags, etc. The Chineese economy is growing at a very fast pace, which is hurting the US as China exports more and more to the US. The US wants to limit these imports and increase US exports to China in an effort to balance the trade deficit.
