Some computers allow you to press the F12 key when you switch your computer on to take you to a page where you can temporarily select your CD/dvd drive as the boot device.

If you still can't get the PC to boot from your cd/dvd despite any of the suggestions here, then beg borrow or steal a working copy of XP........you need it.

Here's the real solution:

1. Use the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD to restart your computer.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to select the To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R option.
3. Type the number of the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console, and then press ENTER.
4. Type the administrator password when you are prompted, and then press ENTER. If no administrator password exists, just press ENTER.
5. At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each command):
cd \windows\system32\drivers

ren ntfs.sys ntfs.old
Note This step renames the corrupted Ntfs.sys file to Ntfs.old. If the Ntfs.sys file is not found, the file is missing.
6. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
copy cd:\i386\ntfs.sys drive:\windows\system32\drivers
Where cd is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows XP CD, and drive is the drive where you installed Windows XP.
7. Remove the Windows XP CD from your CD-ROM drive, type quit at a command prompt, and then press ENTER to quit the Recovery Console.
8. Restart the computer.

Easiest way is to press F8 when you turn the computer on. Have the cd in the drive before you turn it off though. A list of you drives will come up just the select the CD.

You need to boot to the CD. Enter your BIOS (it's different for each system) and look for Boot Order. Make sure CD is before Hard Drive.

you need to boot the laptop from cd,to do this you need to change the boot sequence to boot from cd first.
switch on the pc and press either esc, del,or f2, it could be something else because each maker uses a different key, doing this should take you to bios setup, only alter boot sequence unless you know what you are doing. insert windows cd and reboot

consistent with what you assert. it particularly is troublesome to make your strategies up what the project is. you probably did no longer say no count in case you're utilising intense speed or dial or instantaneous. in case you're utilising a instantaneous internet, it must be sign barrier project. in case you're utilising intense speed, it must be secret agent ware project, if dial up, must be bandwidth project. in case you have been utilising you computer ok till now. i do no longer think of it particularly is computer project. Modem capability surge project is likewise conceivable.
