You are exactly right. We are not a democracy, but a federated republic. . .the federated part quickly losing steam. With technology today it is entirely feasible to once again have a true democracy. The idea of the founding fathers was to protect the government overall from the day to day whims of the people. Lets not forget that in our original "democracy" only white male landowners were allowed a say at all. When populist movements became too large they were crushed (Shay's rebellion; pullman; kent state). Is it perfect? No. Do I have a better idea? No. Can we make it better? I hope so.

We are all republicans. We are just not all Republicans (thank God.)

Happy holidays to all and lets hope that 2007 is better than 2006; especially for our soldiers in Iraq.

Actually, the US is a representative democracy, as democracy is defined in such a way that everyone's vote is the same value.

This clearly is not the case in presidential elections, and I'm not really sure of the other elections either.

Based on how the Bush Administration has operated, we should be classified as a Fascist near-dictatorship.
