it can be done ; good old Christmas is hidden in your heart; Christmas is fun; people make it crazy - don't blame Christmas for that; someone else who is in need; that helps heal your heart; make a new family tradition this year and pass it on ; your children will love you for it ; do something for someone else without having it acknowledged other than by you and God; give your children a hug;buy a cup of coffee for the person behind you in the drive up line; hold the door open ; give up the close parking spot; go to church; sit there in the quiet and reflect how lucky you are to have a beating heart and breaths of life; listen to the choir sing their hearts to the Lord; sounds like you need to rekindle your time with Christ and the old Christmas will come back; it starts with one; pass it on - MERRY CHRISTMAS

Me too! I want the days of Christmas when you went to Grandma's house, ate turkey, ham, dressing and all the trimmings, and just enjoy the experience. Christmas has become so commercialized that kids now expect toys and other expensive gifts that put the family budget in harms way. This year, I decided to just NOT buy a bunch of the stuff that we normally had been doing. We also are not pushing ourselves to be around family and friends on an expedited basis. If it happens fine, but if it doesn't - well, there is next year.
Please do this to help you get over your depression - go ahead and finish up your shopping (do not rush - but try to relax while doing this). Remember to make yourself happy first. Kids get over disappointment, so you don't have to please everyone. Family members can put a lot of pressure on you, so be ready to say, "Here is what we are doing for Christmas." (and then do it). Next year plan ahead and do your shopping earlier and in stages to prevent your getting discouraged. My wife starts buying the day after Christmas to take advantage of the sales, but she doesn't go overboard on anything. I remember this summer on vacation, I bought my son a Christmas gift to put up. We also make gifts during the year (like everyone used to do). I still remember my Grandma giving me a handmade quilt (I still have it, and it is a cherished item in my collection of memorable gifts). You can not only capture Christmas back for yourself, but you can help train your kids the proper way to celebrate in the process. Christmas is about giving not getting. Christ was born, died, and raised again that we might live eternally - that is the greatest gift of all. All the rest of our activities surrounding celebration of Christ's birth and life are just unnecessary fluff. The old timers realized this and made the best of it by giving of themselves at Christmas. Have a Merry Christmas and a lot more to come.

Yes, I do. As an adult it is very hard to feel the way you did as a kid. Sometimes, I will go with my family or friends to just walk around the mall, or drive around the neighborhoods to look at Christmas lights and decorations. That helps put some of the old feeling back.

I know what you mean. I feel like I'm going crazy. it just feels like the meaning and the fun has been zapped out of Christmas now days. I don't honestly think Jesus would want us to celebrate his birth this way. People got out and go thousands of dollars into debt just to give gifts. That is so stupid. I can see making it fun for the children, but now days people buy everybody they know a gift. There is just no sense in it. So I'm with you all the way on that.

I dont even have children, nor do i celebrate xmas, and i still feel the stress of the city...everyone is stressed this time of year and you can see it in peoples eyes, the traffic, the short temperedness, the attitudes people have, etc...its enough like i said to stress someone out who's not even a participant in the whole sham...so i feel you and so does everyone else with a pulse...

don't let the commercialization get to you. ignore it as much as possible. have been fortunate in that all my Christmas gifts are done and delivered. pleased that almost everything is taken care of except putting up a tree -- if I decide to as all I have is an 18 inch fiber optics tree and can put this up in less than 10 minutes. depends upon my mood if this is done, for like you will be glad when it is over.

wow, i feel the same way! i thought it was just me being a grinch. but i honestly dread christmas. i have five children and a very demanding husband and it's hard to keep them all happy. i feel like i am being pulled every which way, you know, being spread to thinly in other words.it's way too stressful. i hate shopping and i hate decorating. i think the only thing good for me on christmas is that my family is together and happy. (i haven't finished shopping either!) so don't feel bad, your not the only one!

Christmas is the most stressful time of year for me. I just want it to be over. I never get anything for chirstmas but everyone expects me to buy for them. I never seem to get what people want. I don't want my kids to grow up thinking its all about the toys.

Christmas is mostly for the kids....it stresses the rest of us out. If anything, i find some of the parents whose kids have grown usually wind up having a meltdown if you don't treat Christmas like it's their own birthday!....ruining it for the rest of us.
