I am getting married next year, and my cat has my last name now(for visits to vet, etc.) ... I'm wondering if I should change his last name when I change mine too ... I hope it wouldn't upset him ... if only he could speak for himself. I just don't want to offend him.

Your cat should be taking more than a "backseat" to the planning you ought to be doing. your cat licks it's own a*s*s. because it doesn't care. it also doesn't care about what you call it. I doubt your fiance does either. Are you that girl from how to lose a guy in ten days?

If you are changing your name-you should also change your name with your vet. To save the vet confusion when it comes to his/her record keeping. Say you make an appointment for your cat under your maiden name and then write a check with your married name-it may cause issues. Your cat will not care

Is this really the only things you have to worry about? I think the cat will cope with his new identity with the usual style and grace cats take such dramatic news. Lick his butt and then fall asleep.

You're kidding, right? I doubt your cat really cares. As long as you feed him, clean his cat box, and love him, he's happy. (I have two cats myself.) But I doubt names really matter to cats. So let's say for simplicity's sake that you keep the records at the vet under the same name.
Now, go find something more important in the world to worry about.

Are you retarted??? It is an animal who cares. I am sure that the cat doesn't really give a crap what his name is as long as you feed him. I am surprised you are even getting married. Does your fiance know who he is marrying??

Well, is he your child or not? If he is, would you change your child's name?

I don't think he will mind. Just be sure to give him a new collar with his new name on it.

Congratulations!

I think if you sit him down and talk to him about it one to one, but don't make it too complicated, he will understand your reasons.
