Sounds like you are overheating...clean out the dust from your computer and make sure all of your fans are working.

1. Turn the computer
2. Press the F8 key in 2 second intervals
3. When you see a menu, choose Boot in Safe Mode
4. Let the computer run to see if the problem recurs

If the problem occurs again it could be hardware related such as a faulty mainboard, RAM or even your power supply

If the problem does not recur while you are booted in safe mode than you have an application problem which can be related to the operating system. Most viruses and malware do not shut your system down. There would be no point as the goal of these programs, nowadays, is to obtain informaiton about the end user for identity theft purposes. Years ago this was the case as with the Michael Angelo virus which corrupted your hard disk drive.

Microsoft Windows 2000 and newer can be set so that when a critical error occurs the computer restarts as opposed to bluescreening.

This is under the Advanced Tab in the System properties applet of the Cointrol Panel

Check the capacitors on the motherboard to see if they are leaking or swollan. Also, check the power supply fan and the CPU fan and heatsink.
