HP recovery has taken me back to new system lost everything as no backup done. thought I was doing a window xp restore. can I recover lost data as per XP restore?

Prezzy - so no you cannot, that is to say without having to fork out some money for software that will allow to get the info back. The documents are never really wiped out completely, have a check via google & look for documnt retrieval software.

All the best + in the future make sure you have back up storage ie a USB Stick or like.

Sorry but no, your data is lost. Learn this hard lesson and invest in a good backup solution. Then USE IT. Don't mean to sound harsh, but don't we all know by now that it's just a matter of time before something corrupts our data? Backup fully, backup often.

Turn off then turn on the computer holding down the R key until you hear clicking and system restore comes on do a full system restore with no back up

If you formatted, you are out of luck. Those restore disks most of the time just format and reinstall to the factory default system.

haha no ... but you can always try downloading a program that will undelete deleted files ...sometimes you can get some stuff back.
