By accident I washed a woolen jumper in the washing machine. Even though it was a cold cycle, the jumper shrank considerably. It is still wet..... Any suggestions to get it more or less back to it´s original seize?

Livinia, I am going to give your suggestion a try: I have got nothing to lose, warm water might do the trick.....

Thanks everybody for answering and ¡Feliz Navidad a todos desde España!

Nope - its not a reversable process. I once ruined two washing machine loads of clothes by using water that was too hot. The good news was that as a result, I wasn't allowed to go near the washing machine for 13 years of marriage !!!

I have done this with knitted cotton and woollen garments and as livinia has suggested: try hanging it up while still wet not too heavy though as this will distort the garment.

I did the same with my best summer top. Only thing was, i should have had it dry cleaned. I didn't look at the label before washing. Taught me a lesson. It was my best top EVER. Now its like a crispy funny shape, i tried pulling and pushing it all shapes, but its ruined!! Just check all labels from now on. I do now.

wash it by hand again, once you have gently squashed it to take out most of the water stretch it always, then lay it on a towel so it absorb´s most of the water, then hang on a coat hanger to dry , when almost dry stretch a little a bit more until you think it´s back to it´s normal size

Sorry there is nothing you can do once shrunk always shrunk. Best just throw it away. I can remember my mum ruining one of my best jumpers like that and I put it in the drawer, bad mistake you just keep thinking about it.

Try putting it over a chair and stuffing it with pillows. Clip something heavy, like sneakers, to the sleeves and waist area. I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try.

wash it on a warm wash, pull it a little and hang it up
hot water streches clothes, and hanging something on a hanger while wet streches it out
