I like Katrina, but Katie could be used as a nickname for it. Katie is tradtionally a nickname, and some research shows people with nicknames as their full name have something of a disadvantage in the professional world. They're not taking as seriously as people with "proper" names. Putting Katrina on her birth certificate and calling her Katie gives her the best of both.

After Hurricane Katrina, I think that name would have a negative connotation for many people. I would go with Katie, but give her the formal name of Katherine. Katie is more of a nick name.

I love the name Katrina. The only problem I see with it is hurricane Katrina, which happened a year or so ago in New Orleans. So in that case it might do good to be Katie.
But I like the name Katrina much better.

Go with Katrina, you can always use Katie as a nickname. This way the child will have options when they are grown.

Katrina, Katie is cute, but it's also common. Katrina is prettier and more interesting.
