A chemical reaction,
Acid/base neutralization:
HC2H3O2 (acetic acid) + HCO3- (bicarbonate ion) ----> H
H2CO3 (carbonic acid) + C2H3O2- (acetate ion)
H2CO3 -----> H2O + CO2
The foaming is the liberation of CO2 gas when carbonic acid dissociates.
To make it even more understandable you can try the following experiment:Place two teaspoons of baking soda into the empty soda pop bottle and add an inch of water. Next, place a tablespoon of vinegar into the balloon and cover the top of the bottle with the mouth of the balloon. When the balloon is on correctly, lift the end of the balloon releasing the vinegar into the bottle where the baking soda and water waits.When the vinegar reaches the baking soda, a chemical reaction takes place. During this reaction carbon dioxide is formed. This gas is released from its liquid/solid state which makes the balloon expand. See how large you can make the balloon by adding more baking soda, vinegar, and water.Have a nice day.

reaction!!

An acid base neutralization will occur.
STRONG EFFERVESCENCE TAKES PLACE DUE TO CO2 LIBERATED.
Be careful NOT to place a lid or conduct the reaction in an air tight vessel.

Reaction:

NaHCO3 + CH3COOH -------> CH3COONa + H2O + CO2
baking soda= NaHCO3 a moderate base.

Vinegar is a liquid produced by the fermentation of alcohol into acetic acid and other fermentation by-products. The acetic acid concentration ranges typically from 4 to 8 percent by volume for table vinegar (typically 5%)

Since proportion of both components is equal but concentration is not , large amount of NaHCO3 remains unreacted.
This happens because vinegar is very dilute acetic acid.

don't stand near it, because the lid will blow off pretty quickly. a hilarious trick to play on someone is to paint the inside of bottle black, and ask someone to open it for you as you 'cant open it' yourself. make sure you have put enough vinegar and baking soda in it, and when the person opens the bottle..... kaboom!!!!!!!!!!!!
