You can take a train, direct from LGW to LTN (it goes via Central L). If I had to hazard a guess it's about 50 miles between the two. If you chose to drive, the distance would be longer, as you would be advised to avoid Central L by going around the M25.

It's not an easy transit. How you would do it depends on what time of day you'd be there. Choices would be taxi (expensive) train (ptobably via London) or there may be a bus.
