The same thing that makes a dude look fat. The constant movement of food towards the mouth.
In all honesty, clothes can enhance or insult only what you already have. Clothes don't make you look fat. Some outfits just reveal that you are fat more than others.

because of the fact those are the girls folk and girls folk she aspires to be like as adversarial to the stick skinny fashions. She desires to look healthful with some meat on her bones, aka thick (which isn't a ephemism for fat).
