I saw one wrecked, it lost it brakes coming down a big mountain with a load of brand new Subaru's. All of the cars were out of the carrier except for one, what a mess. I think other vehicles were involved also, they had the road close for over 5 hours.

Only in the movies as these cars are tied down with steel cables. Parked on the carrier their emergency brakes are on. Even then the car tires sit in wells that keep the cars still. So it is near impossible for it to happen. It would take a really negligent driver to lose the load on the road.

I did not see it actually happen, but I saw the car moments after it had happened. I worked at a Cadillac dealership, the ramps on the carrier collapsed and the car fell and was damaged. The car was picked up by Cadillac. Most of these vehicles are repaired and then sold at dealer-only auctions. The damaged is disclosed to the dealer. The dealer is not always required to disclose the damage if repaired by the manufacturer but the car can not be sold as new.

I have often wondered the same thing. I always try to go around when I get behind one. My parents drive all over the country and they saw one I believe in Texas. They said it rolled right off. Luckily no one was injured or worse!

If they are put on there right, they are pretty safe, I did see the top of a Caddy chopped off because one of our drivers drove under a bridge too low......Sad and expensive
