Do you follow your heart or your brain when there is option to follow one of them exclusively? What does one do when conflict arises? I may feel in a situation that one option will be better for me but someone may be hurt but the other option will make someone happy but I may face problem in the long run.

I am led more and more to believe that the two are meant to work together.
And that for me, neither of them should make the decisions - it's my intuition that knows what's right.

In your case, it sounds a lot like you should do what "will be better for" YOU.

There is never an option, decisions should use compassion as well as reason in many circumstances. If you receive too much change at a checkout, does your heart tell you to return it or is it reasoning telling you that this is the correct proceedure. Is the conscience from the heart or from the brain, again compassion and reason must form a solution. The right thing for you to do is not always the most pleasant, but a decision based on solid reasoning is usually more sound and positive in long term meaning than one who relies excusively on feelings for decision making.

"The Heart" is more of a romanticized expression than it is an actual occurrence in your body.

Your brain controls everything you do. Even your heart. Difference actually being... right brain controls the "heart" or love issues and the left brain controls the more practical reason center.

Your heart... pumps blood to your organs and feeds your lungs.
That's about it...

Oh and just so you know... Your heart is not shaped like a valentine either. It looks like your fist would after beating it against the wall a couple of hundred times... ( I love irony)

"A heart that beats as both siphon and reservoir." Jeff Buckley

"Love and reason are sworn enemies."
(can't remember who said that, but it's someone old, dead and famous.)

Depends on the situation.

In your cases of better for you but hurts someone else that would depend on who that person was, how close you are to him/her, and how it will hurt you to take the hit.

In most cases i say I follow my brain and use my reason to do what I think best but I also feel no shame in following my heart and doing something stupid just because i felt like it..but I know going in it is a stupid move

I always start by thinking that I should do the most sensible thing...but in the end it´s always my heart that effects me most and does the chosing and deciding!Usually
following my heart gives me the feeling that I don´t have anything to regret, but may let me get hurt.Following my brain might be less painful but in the longterm I´ll be asking myself..``what if´´?
Basically it´s not really a-heart or brain?-question that you have, rather than a-sacrifice,either your going to be troubled or that other person. That´s what you have to decide on..

I operate with both, the brain is my computer, where in i store the worldly knowledge, about health, climate, money, job, computer, maths, science, because it helps me pay for my life on earth, never think this is important, our earthly duties help us understand our spitural life, I use my heart, when i deal with human life, on earth, because what i do for others i am doing it for all of us, we are all one, you, me and the power above, the power that is above is power we all carry in a minute form, to understand the far we need to know the near!
Human relations is agian different, on the job we need boundries, like how we relate with our employees, our bosses, etc, It is important to integrate heart and brain to function to our optimum. The highest understanding of us is what we need to express, it is good to believe in yourself because you exactly know what is right for you, your expression is who you want to be and who you really are, never lie to yourself, because it is the biggest lie for your being. What ever you do ask yourself does this act define who i am? Eventually in the long run people will know who you are and what your exact intentions were. We build our own reputation as we go, now the decision is what kind of reputation do you want? Hope i have answered your question!

Brain.

Secular bit:

Think about what you want, and what you are willing to trade to get it. If in the worst case scenario that you can imagine, you do not lose anything you aren't willing to part with for the thing that you want (heart's desire), then I suppose you should follow your heart.

Christian bit: Use Jesus teachings as your guide. Is the thing you want to do deceptive? Is it incompassionate? Is it thievery? Is it violent?

That's all I got.

Be well.

Essentually you follow your brain because controls your heart functions, but then it brings into question if when you say your "heart" you are in fact implying that you following your thoughts and feelings, which are also your brain at work. So in essence you follow your brain.()
