My father works a lot of hours. Owns his own heating and cooling business. He spends all of his money pleasing his wife. He drives a piece of crap to work, etc. so his stay at home wife can drive a BMW Mini Cooper. He works 6 days a week and on Sunday she puts him to work in the yard, house, etc. He likes to golf but he doesn't do it enough to buy him anything for it. He doesn't really have any hobbies except in his 'spare' time he buys, renovates and rents out houses. He's very selfless to say the least. Growing up my siblings and I would always buy him tools, drills, etc. for christmas. Now that I'm in my 30's I feel bad buying him something for work. But I don't know what to get him. He plays the lottery a lot so I thought about scratch off tickets. He would probably love it but is that cheezy or do you have a great suggestion? Save the wife jokes, he loves her regardless of their arrangement. I need some real answers and I know this is a great place to get them!

I agree about the vacation. Even if you don't have a lot of money to spend on him, you can buy Marriott gift cards at a variety of locations. (Grocery stores that sell gift cards should have them). For $200, he can easily afford a weekend away.

I also agree that spending some time with him would be great. He gets quality time with his daughter, and he isn't likely to say "no" to that! Buy some movie ticket gift cards or tickets to a show or sporting event. You could also arrange for a nice lunch.

Since you say he doesn't golf enough to buy him any golf equipment, why not pay for a round of golf?

You can always buy him some scratch off tickets aside from the "real" gift.

And don't feel bad for buying your father tools for work. He sounds like he is dedicated to his job, and having fresh tools to work with makes his job easier more enjoyable. And while he's working, it's always in his mind that the tools came from you.

My suggestion, simply because he works alot, is to get him tickets for a vacation, and make it at least two weeks. One where he can get pampered and not have to do a thing. I'm very serious, he needs a break like that. Years ago I worked two jobs to support my family, and a vacation that some friends had given me was the best present ever.

Where he doesn't get out much(except to work)...take him and you out for dinner and a movie, or do something a father and daughter haven't done in a while... he will appreciate it and always remember it, and may be a gift card for where he buys his work clothes...

get him something which he always wanted ...you would know about it - he subconsciously must have yearned for something..
like a golf set, a set of his favorite comics, movies, music....something luxurious at which he looks at longingly...
