Your local Housing Office should be able to help you out.
I don't know which area you are in, so I can't give you addresses and numbers. Sorry.

This is very difficult because many mortgage lenders now make it a condition of borrowing that the mortgagee/landlord does not accept students, people in receipt of benefit or asylum seekers.

You are part of a priority group for housing, please contact your local Poverty Action Group for advice. If you can't find them, try the Citizens' Advice Bureau. Have you thought about being part of a house-share? This can be a safe, cheaper and friendlier way to live and to parent babies and toddlers.

After New Year, you could try visiting local colleges and places of worship and ask if anyone has accommodation in their home (Top flat for instance). Teachers and lecturers sometimes have big houses with places to let.

If possible you could design and print a personal profile A5 flier to give to people when you visit for advice or information.

Asking Yahoo was a brilliant idea! I wish you every success. As soon as the holiday is over, get working on it. I am a Quaker and we are involved with social action in communities. Quakers at Mount Street Meeting in central Manchester will be able to advise you personally.
Hope some of this will be useful, stay in touch and let us know when you have found somewhere.

hi there,

when ive moved in the past i know you can usually ring the coucil up and ask them if they have a list of private landlords that take dss, ive done this in the past not every council has one though but worth a try, but why not go down to the council anyway your bound to get a council house if you havent got suitable housing
for you and your baby that way you dont have to pay any deposits
and stuff, also you can decorate it pretty much how you like but go as soon as possible as you cant have the stress worrying you.

take care x
