They may be stained or unfortunately, they may actually be etched. This is caused by too much soap in the cycle, some older dishwashers are worse about this. The newer models won't do it as much, but sooner or later, the glasses are always going to show some wear. I think the hand washing idea is the best, though time-consuming, especially if they're nice glasses.

You need salt in the machine. When I had this problem and my dishwasher was under warranty I had the engineer out and he said that even with the tablets that are supposed to contain everything you still need salt. Hope this corrects the problem.

your rinse aid dispenser will have a dial on it. move it up a notch and try again.

Or, if you are in a hardwater area, find the salt dial and turn that up a notch. The lime in the water is stopping the soap working properly and the lime is sticking to the glass when the hot water is sprayed.

The salt dial is normally in the base of the machine

could be a mixture of things.
1st if your dishwasher has a heat setting lower it.
2nd, leave the dishwasher alone for a good few hours after use to cool slowly,

evaporation is the cause of the staining, you could just use the dishwasher to wash them then dry them straight away afterwards.

next time you run your diswaher put some white vinegar in it to clean your machine. If you buy a rinse aid other than jet dry you may get spots as other rinse aids are cheaper and don't have the effectiveness.

Buy a good dishwasher cleaner - I use Finish - and make sure that the salt container is full with granular salt NOT table salt
