an easy way to calculate this is to think of 10% (divide the number by ten, giving 50), then divide this number in hald (which will 5% of the total), giving 25. Add them together (10%+5%=15%), giving you 50+25 = 75

What is the 15% discount of 500 ?

First change % to decimal by replacing the % sign with a decimal point and then move the decimal point two places to the left. This would give 15%=.15

Now multiply this decimal by the amount $500 getting:
discount = .15*$500= $75
