What are you talking about? A fair catch is called by the guy catching the ball. The kicker doesn't KNOW it will be called as a fair catch until it is in the air. Are you perhaps thinking of a Field Goal or something? They almost always use placeholders now. I don't think anyone uses the Drop Kick method, and hasn't for YEARS. Doug Flutie did it the other year just to kinda bring it back and almost like a publicity stunt.

The kicker's preferences have no bearing on whether or not a kick is fair caught. Any scrimmage kick, whether it be punt, dropkick or placekick can be fair caught.

Yes because they are more used to doing that. Though it would be interesting to see more drop kicks.

it's more accurate and and if you screw it up the ball can easily be recovered. versus a place kicker, if the holder messes up the hold he can pick it up and run with it versus picking up the ball off the ground.
