My mom has a 94 Nissan Pathfinder LE with a 3.0 V6 in it. 4 weel drive. I've seen my dad do some pretty amazing things with this lil truck, I've seen him pull a full size tour bus out of the mud axle deep up a hill with this truck so its been a great truck. the truck has 218,000 miles on it. we just put new plugs wires distributer cap button. all that good stuff and about 60,000 miles ago we put new heads on it. just this morning it started missing really bad and we have a lot of trouble keeping it running, it's shooting out black smoke out the exost, and my mom says the brakes are exstreamly stiff. We know that the front oil gasket is going bad, the gasket that goes around the crankshaft pully in the front. Does anyone know why its doing what its doing and if its easy to fix it, or not. thanks if you can help.

and i don't want no ford guy comming up here and telling me that it should of been a ford.

sounds to me like its getting too much gas.you might check the fuel pump regulator,if its bad then its letting too much gas pour in around the injectors.check the plugs, are they wet with gas?if they are, check the coil pack and module.also check the idle air control.

black smoke is usually from an overrich fuel mix. IIRC its an injected engine so look for an stuck injector, bad air flow sensor, too high fuel pressure. the front seal is not too bad a repair once you get to it but you have to first remove everything that's hung on the front of the block, water pump, alt, A/C compresser, usually the radiator and A/C condensor to name the most common. it might be a good time to replace the timing chain or belt since it will be exposed as well. as an afterthought you might want to check the engine timing as well since it could be a reason for your running troubles

probably jumped your timing from that shitty gasket letting oil in there. a lot of slack in the timing chain after 200,000 miles as well

put a new timing chain and a fresh gasket.

i'd look for a vacuum leak, or maybe it's a bad airflow meter. a vacuum leak would cause the fuel pressure to go to maximum, since there would be no vacuum to the regulator.

The first answer sounds good, and you could also check the fuel pressure regulator.
