He has a higher QB rating than all three of those guys you picked. And as far as people saying he doesn't throw as much, he has thrown for more yards than McNair and Pennington, and is only 70 yards behind Brady. He was chosen because he's only thrown 8 int's this year, which is fantastic for a first year starter. His team is 12-2, you don't get to 12-2 in the AFC west division without a good QB, and Rivers is a great QB. People who say the Chargers are all L.T. have never watched a Charger game, the Chargers run a balanced offense, they pass as much as they run, that's why they're unstoppable, they have too many weapons.

I have always been a Steve McNair fan, and Brady is year in a nd year out extremely consistent. Pennington, like his partner in "career threatening surgeries", Drew Brees, are miracles, this season. Having said that, a quarterback is often judged (right or wrong) by the success of his team. Passing is not the only barometer by which to judge a QB. Game management, in the minds of many, is even more important than passing numbers.

I would have picked McNair, Manning and Vince Young. My own personal philosophy is where would their respective teams be without them. San Diego would be in the playoffs without Rivers, but The Ravens certainly would not have won their division without McNair. In fact, I favor them in the Super Bowl. The Colts would be 3-13 without Manning and Vince Young, though his numbers are not the best, was a big shot in the arm for an absolutely horrid Titan offense. They certainly would not be 7-7 without him.

Sorry dude, but the numbers don't lie

RAT 91.5 | YDS 2,976 | TD 18

18 TD to 8 Int Ratio

62.8% completion rating

That's Impressive in a Rushing Dominant Team

Brady, Pennington, and McNair are looked on as the point makers. Philip Rivers was not.

Maybe Brady, but I can't vouch for Pennington or McNair. The better question is how ridiculous it is that TONY ROMO made the Pro Bowl, after what, 9 STARTS! Give me a break..

i agree that brady should have went, but rivers deserves it more than the other to. all of rivers numbers are better than mcnairs, mcnair has only 13 tds thus far. and while most of rivers and penningtons numbers are similar, river has more td's and less int's then pennington. pennington actually has more ints then he does td, not pro bowl material.

He has had a good year, but I agree with you that he doesnt seem like a guy should be there. It just goes to show you the lack of quality QB's in football right now. All you have to do is have a QB rating above 90 and you are probably in the top 5 QB's in football.

He deserves it! Why would Chad Pennington deserve to go over Rivers??? The Jets aren't any good anyway and the Chargers are the NFL's Strongest team.

Brady and Pennington for sure should be ahead of Rivers.

I guess Rivers got in because he hands off better than everyone else. Just wait till he chokes in the playoffs

No, ridiculous is Tony Romo going to the Pro Bowl, Rivers has good Stas, he hasn't made a lot of errors in his first year, and... well, he is very intelligent, he gives the ball to L.T., he could try to show off his arm trowing more, but he chooses what's best for the team

He's top 5 AFC QB's. but not top 3. He has good numbers, but like Romo, not enough snaps. He got in because of his team's results and his lack of INT's.

Dah veed is right. The league is trying to promote it's young QB's.
