Hi,

At my 20 week scan I was told I had a low lying posteria placenta, so I have to go for another scan around 36 weeks to see if its moved. Has anybody had this before? and what are the chances of it moving? Thanks

Its not uncommon, and chances of it moving up are very good. If it doesn't and it should get positioned between the baby's head and your cervix (placenta previa), your doc will most likely perform a c-section closer to your due date. There is no need to worry.

I worked in OB for 11 years. The chances for the uterus to grow and bring the placenta -pulling up withe uterus is good during the first tri=mester. You doctor has given you sugestion About sex and walking, bathing. make sure you listen to them. Its important to the baby. The placenta is a very important organ, due to fact that its the life line to the baby. Keep in mind thug you Can have a normal healthy baby the only difference if the placenta doesn't move, the baby will be delivered by c/section

I HAD IT WHEN I WAS PREGNANT 3 YEARS AGO. IT MOVED SO MUCH- IT WENT ON HE BACK OF MY UTERUS FOR A FEW WEEKS. IT USUALLY MOVES- DON'T WORRY. EVEN IF IT DOESN'T- THERE IS STILL A WAY THE DOCTOR CAN "HELP" IT MOVE. SOMETIMES IT JUST STAYS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE BIRTH CANAL AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM- YOU CAN'T GIVE BIRTH THE NATURAL WAY, BUT A C-SECTION IS NEEDED. THAT'S ALSO NOT A BIG DEAL- I HAD MY SON THROUGH A C-SECTION, DUE TO VERY NARROW PELVIC BONES AND QUITE A BIG BABY. IT'S ABSOLUTELY NORMAL. DON'T PANIC- JUST WAIT, RELAX, TRY NOT TO THINK ABOUT IT. SOMEONE EVEN TOLD ME THAT MOST PREGNANCIES START WITH A LOW LYING PLACENTA THAT LATER ON FINDS ITS BEST POSITION.

I had a low mendacity placenta at 20 weeks and it has considering moved to the position that is meant to be..i'm 36 weeks now. If I save in options wisely, i imagine that's ninety 5% that bypass on their personal. inspite of a low mendacity placenta, your dr must have you ever labor on your man or woman no matter if it isn't protecting your cervix. good success!!

Yes I had it. I had a lot of ultra sounds witch was cool because I got to see my baby a lot. Chances are that it will move! Worse case you will need a c-section. You may have bleeding too. Your OBGYN will tell you to keep an eye out for that. (when I was like 35 weeks I started bleeding, they told me it was because of the low lying placenta, if this happens talk to your doctor just in case but dont freak out like I did) Good luck to you!

I had this when I was pregnant and it usually moves on its own. My doctor told me not to stress out about it that it would take care of itself and I am glad I listened to him because it did.
