It is not insulting my friend. it is a reality.
People can right about whatever they want can't they? I wrote a sonnet about my dog.
But i see that you are implying that all rappers do i sing about things that are unimportant. What about ludacris' latest song with Mary J.
look at Jay Z, Nas, Game, Tupac and Biggy.
Come on they are still poets.
A poet is not describbed as written word about something specific.
A poem is what it is. Whether it is about things that are important in life or if it is about jewellery, it is still a poem.
Come on man!!!

Poetry, and for that matter literature, is supposed to be open to ANYTHING. That's because it's art. And in art, there's no such thing as ugly. Art is subjective so yes, they can be considered poets since they talk about something in verse form. This is the new definition of poetry.
Although, yeah, I don't like them that much (another thing welcome in art: preferences!).

to me, rappers are not poets, but people have different ideas of what poetry is! in my opinion, Jim Morrisom was the most talented singer of our time!

I would never include rap lyrics in the category of poetry, but that's just my personal opinion.
