Living in Pittsburgh Pa, and absolutely hate it! I love the mountains in Denver and the weather. I don't mind the snow that much.. Love the beaches in Sandiego, but everything seems so expensive! Denver doesn't seem that bad it's reasonable... What should I do?

Denver really has more advantages, in my opinion. Prices are somewhat lower here, especially for real estate (SD is one of the most expensive markets in the country.) The weather in Denver is great really - coming from Pittsburgh, you'll find the winters actually very warm and sunny (ignore the blizzard that's going on right now) - more sunny days here than in SD! Lots of good jobs, less traffic, beautiful scenery, so much recreation, decent and safe urban areas, good schools, etc. etc.

Remember, you can always visit the beach on vacation! I'd investigate the Denver area, if I were you!

I love Denver (except today-major blizzard). There are so many things to do and it's spectacular on a nice day! People here are very nice and the cost of living is reasonable. I also like the beaches, but would rather have the things to do here and then just visit the beach on occasion. After all, only a day's drive to the beach (okay, maybe a little more) if you want to see it.

Fort Collins was voted one of the best places to live, which is about 60 miles north of Denver. Close enough to go to Denver, yet far enough if you don't like big cities.

Hate to sound like the chamber of commerce, but Denver has more sunny days than any other major city in the US (approx 300 a year, barely beating San Diego). You can be in the mountains from anywhere in Denver within 30-45 minutes. If you like the water, we have many lakes, rivers, and resevoirs, lots of boating, rafting, fishing, etc., to do. It's moderately expensive here, but nothing like CA. If you truly have to have the beach, take a small vacation to Mexico or San Diego from here. Airfair is much more reasonable from Denver than from Pitts to these locations.
We are in the middle of a blizzard right now, but the cool thing about Denver is that by Fri (its Wed now) all the snow will be melted! Not like Pittsburg!

How much money do you have? San Fran is the most expensive city in the country besides NYC. It could be a hard city to afford on a student budget. If money isn't a problem, I would go with San Fran. It is absolutely beautiful, has the ocean, and a well educated and liberal population. You don't have to deal with the snow, but yet you are only a few hours from Lake Tahoe if you do want to see the snow once in awhile. Besides San Fran itself, there are also lots of other pretty areas for you to visit if you live in that area. Denver is going to have harsh weather, and it is completely landlocked. The mountains are nice, but that's about it. You are surrounded by mountains and prarie, and you are nowhere near any other cool big cities. If you can afford it, go with San Francisco!

Lots of people move to Colorado from San Diego because of the difference in cost of living. They say that they have to work so much in SOCal that they cant enjoy a thing there.

I live in Colorado, and the winter is not intense like in Wisconsin, but it is a little bit long for the number of nights dropping below freezing. But who cares, most people are sleeping anyway.

If you have to have an ocean, that is the only reason to move to San Diego.

but we have several dozen flights a day from Denver to SoCal!

sell everything. move to denver for 2 years. move to san diego for 2 years. rent furnished apartments. write a travel book "colorado vs. california".

i currently live in the sf bay area. i used to live in the outskirts of denver. i miss denver. better weather, prettier, cleaner air, less pollution, not as many stupid people, not as much traffic, etc., etc.

San Diego - better weather, ocean.

Denver, cheaper, mountains.

Can you afford San Diego? Can you live without large bodies of water? Can you deal with cold and heat? Answer those questions and you have your answer.
