Basically you are asking, what computers have we got.

In more detail you need to know.
What computers
What software
How is it configured
Networks
Peripherals and network devices
Servers
Digital devices (phones, blackberries etc)

but don't forget
People
Skills
and so on.

A bit of advice, computers are part of your business and so should add value to the business. If you can't add value then your job is at stake.

So you also may want to find out how the equipment fits into the value chain. The boss doesn't want to know how many computers you have, he wants to know how they are contributing the business. Even if he asks, how many computers you have, that isn't what he wants.

So try gathering information about how much people use computers, the Internet and so on.

If you want to increase the bandwidth of my Internet connection, and of course your boss only uses the Internet to email his secratary sitting at the desk outside his office, you have a hard job. If you can say "Staff use the Internet for 80% of their sales, or for ??% of their day, and so on, it is easier to justifity).

Think outside the box dude.

The company you work for has its own IT department.
The IT department or more specifically, certain individuals from the IT department analyze processes and procedures dealing with various IT tasks to ensure they are being done correctly and as expected. This can be as simple as just asking questions and looking at a few things to as in depth as using various tools to inspect and check anything and everything IT related.
In all my years as a programmer, I've never had an in-depth audit of programming practices, but system administrators typically get raked over the coals.
