are u a brand new rider with zero miles on the saddle? best bet would be to get a used bike about 750cc's. they would be big enough to handle high speed freeways, but light and nimble enough for the rookie to handle.
if buying a used bike, ask for the maintance records. did the owner do the required scheduled maintance when due? does the bike start easily the 1st time with the engine being 'ice' cold? how does it idle; smooth or rough? after warm up, when the throttle is cracked, does it blow blue smoke through the tail pipe? if it does, the valve guides or valve seals could be heading south.
from a financial standpoint, used is cheaper, but new could be alot more reliable, especially if the current owner cant prove how well he took care of the scoot.

Make sure it fits by standing up and seat does not ride high. Ease in use. Repair-keep oiled and spokes tightened...Safety gear...Good shoes...I would definately need a good seat if being used a lot.
