It is an actual place. All people both good and bad go to the Bible hell. It is mankind's common grave. What Scriptures prove this? Here are a few:
Psalm 139:8--"If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there."
Amos 9:2--"Though they dig into hell, From there My hand shall take them; Though they climb up to heaven, From there I will bring them down."
Jonah 2:2--"And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice."
Revelation 1:18--"I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."
Psalms 146:3,4--"Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish." [ The dead cannot feel anything, neither pain nor pleasure for they have no thoughts ]
Ecclesiastes 3:19-20--"For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again." [ So what happens to both people and animals when they die? They all go to the same place.]
Revelation 20:13-14--"And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." (Hell delivers up the dead, meaning a resurrection from the grave, and what happens to death & hell? They are thrown into the lake of fire, meaning total destruction.

The word “hell” is used 54 times in the Bible. It is translated from several different words with various meanings, as indicated below:

In the Old Testament:

31 times from the Hebrew “Sheol,” which means
“the grave”

In the New Testament:

10 times from the Greek “Hades,” which means
“the grave”
12 times from the Greek “Gehenna,” which means
“a place of burning”
1 time from the Greek “Tartarus,” which means
“a place of darkness”

Hell represents the eternal death or the second death of sinners when Judgement is issued. They will not burn forever and ever because that would be that people in Hell are immortal but God says that they will exist no more. Follow link for more on this subject if you want to know more >>

I think that hell is for sure a state of mind. People create their own hells and its their choice to life with it or change it. I think your attitude towards everything makes up wether or not you are in hell.

I dont believe that there is an actual place (hell) that people go to. I agree with one of the above answers that its a scare tactic.

I think that people can learn how to have a positive outlook on life and learn how to deal with things so that they arent living their own personal hell though.

To some people, its an actual place.

I dont think it is. In my religion theres a place called the astral, and theres levels we go to when we die where we recover from our last life untill we are ready for our next.
These levels are nothing like hell though.
We dont believe in demons or anything like that.

I dont want to say its a state of mind. Because to a degree, in some places of the world it is hell...

But I dont believe the hell that the Christians believe in exsists

Yes I really believe that Hell is a real place,it seems to be the final destination of those who have rejected Gods offer of salvation and who have chosen not to love God and have been loveless in dealing with others,so I think that you can conclude that Hell is a place where love is totally absent and only despair and rage exist.
Hell is not this life no matter how tough it gets because love exists even in the hardships of life.

i do no longer think in an afterlife. i've got faith that the two heaven and hell are experienced on an analogous time as we are alive right here on earth. as quickly as we die, there is not extra residing of any variety. We pass back to the state we've been in before being born: nonexistence. the two heaven and hell, interior the experience that I mentioned, are authentic. each and each individual could have their very very own version of heaven or hell. some are born into it, some create their very very own, some seem to fall into it faster or later in life. the two places could be entered and exited multiple situations.

Both. It is both a state of mind, and a place. We build our own hell here on earth, and there is a place of eternal damnation for the wicked in the afterlife.
