You can stop popping your knuckles. I did and I had popped them since I was a little girl. Just try doing something else with your hands, like play with your shirt or play with your hair, anything to keep your hands busy. It really does help.Only pop them when necessary because yes it can be harmful. It can give you arthritis and that is worse than any feeling that you feel when you don't pop them. Arthritis can make it toware you can't move your hands and they can become deformed and all sorts of things. Hope the advice helps.
Good luck on stopping the popping and hopefully starting a new healthier habit.

Popping or cracking your knuckles can cause damage if you do it excessively. It can cause stiffness and pain as was said before. It can also cause arthritis.

Just make sure you arent doing it a lot. I have to pop my wrist and middle finger on occasion, but it is because I have had surgery on both and it helps to relieve my stiffness.

It is called cracking knuckles or popping knuckles. By doing this you are removing the air pockets from the joints, which in turn causes friction on the joint itself. Prolonged cracking of these joints sometimes can lead to stiffness and pain.

It's called cracking your knuckles. It has been proved that it does not cause arthritis, but it can wear on your cartilage if done too frequently. It's actually an obsessive compulsive action. You should try to find a healthier action to replace it.

I read all of the other answers. One thing that I didn't see...If you crack you knuckles too much I've seen them get much larger. Years ago young people used to do it all the time. Some of them really had big knuckles. If you can keep one hand busy, then you won't crack them. Maybe if you keep doing it, smack one hand to stop yourself. Good luck.

Cracking knuckles. The most dangerous part is if you're driving everyone else crazy by doing it and they finally scream, rant and then hit you for it... ouch...
