Well what happens if you forget your gun, or the one day you think you don't need it and leave it at home, and you get attacked then what'll you do?.
What would you do if you lost your weapon during the fight or you happened to get disarmed during the fight because the other person had knowledge on distracting you (or you were blindsided by their friend) and the weapon was removed from your possession to even up the odds or put the odds more in their favor, then what?
it's far better to have a backup plan in case plan A goes wrong and you have to go to plan B which would be to defend yourself without a weapon. And having a Martial Arts background will give you more options to choose from rather than acting foolishly.
learning how to use any weapon (whether it's a gun, knife, etc)properly is learning a technique whether it's similar to Martial Arts or not, it's both for your safety, and the safety of others.
Martial Arts is just another way to be better prepared for whatever gets thrown at you out on the street. and in effect, YOU become the weapon. The true weapon is your brain, your grey matter, your noggin, your poise under pressure when all about you have lost theirs.
Do you think pulling a trigger is gonna solve EVERY problem, EVERY time someone gets in your face? that kind of thinking will only get you jail time, the use of a gun if you are allowed to carry one should only be LAST resort. using it before then only counts against you rather than in favor of you even if you're allowed to carry a firearm.
Law Enforcement are allowed to carry weapons, but often use them as last resort if the situation has escalated past the boundaries of diffusing the situation in a non violent manner.
do you see an officer pull his weapon EVERY time they're faced with EVERYONE they come across during or after an altercation, or even during a simple, routine action such as writing a ticket?
NO, they try to use non lethal force to subdue someone (ie a form of Martial Arts technique) to try and calm the person down if the individual is being uncooperative and gain compliance.

gun skills = good.
martial arts skills = good.
gun skills + martial arts skills = better.
A martial arts school that encourages gun knowledge and responsible use of a firearm is good for you. The world is full of guns, martial artists need to stop ignoring this. They are a part of the modern martial arts skills.
In short, the martial arts just make it more likely that you will be ready for anything. Good martial arts is for avoiding and diffusing conflict before you would have to throw a punch or pull out a gun. The punching and kicking part is when the primary objective has already failed.

Learning to use a gun is a martial art. Why would you want to buy one and not know how to use it.
As for the benefits of unarmed martial arts. I would say that is better for people who want to learn to fight and use it to fight rather than someone interested in self-defence. Weapons are your best bet for self-defence applications however there are times when you will be without your weapon and you might have no other option so it would be a good idea to supplement your weapon martial art skills with unarmed martial arts.
Weapon training also gives you a good grasp on the reality and finality and advantages of using a weapon that many people become deluded over and have a false sense of security because they got some crappy teaching about "knife defence" or something.

There are many reasons for martial arts besides self defense.
Perfection of character and physical fitness. Just to name two.
Also, do you really want to solve every problem with a gun? Don’t you think it is over kill sometimes? What if you are at a bar and some guy tries to punch you are you gone to shoot him? I believe that is cold blooded murder and I highly doubt this is legal where you live.
Also, when you are attacked it will be by surprise. When you are attacked from behind by surprise will you really be able to draw your weapon, chamber a round, identify your target, aim it and fire it. I think not. Or worse yet, you do all this (unlikely) and “click” the gun mis-fires. Now what, you didn’t study martial arts and you are now out of options.
You are being unrealistic if you think a gun is an answer to every problem.

Arts are matter of appreciation, including martial arts. As an artist point of view martial arts is about how you appreciate yourself and your opponents. It is not only who hit the ground. Martial arts is about knowing yourself and your opponents. By knowing yourself through dedication and practices, you'll find yourself to be calmer and more aware about yourself and your surrounding. If you compare gun with martial arts I assume you want to use martial arts to defend yourself, not for its art's value. Like gun or any self-defense tools, martial arts is not something that I hope you ever need to use in public. But if you do, you have several advantages defending yourself using martial arts rather with a gun. Martial arts is the best way to defend yourself, you don't have to rely on the gun or any other thing. What is the best way to defend your body? Use your own body to defend itself, and that's what martial arts are. Like martial arts, firing a gun also need practices, you can see the difference between the first-time shooter and a veteran. There are more of martial arts than kicking and punching, and there are more of firing a gun than pulling the trigger. You need to keep calm and know when and where to shoot. Believe me, when accidents happen, it's better if you kick rather than shoot the wrong person.

People with guns are panicky flighty types. People who know martial arts are disciplined and composed types.
Various reasons for this. If you use a gun you will necessarily either draw attention to yourself or cause somebody some massive injury. You can shoot somebody in the foot all you like but that still leaves them with a hole in their foot. If you know martial arts you have no qualms about removing the gun and incapacitating an attacker, without causing any lasting damage to anything other than their pride.
This is all completely irrelevant if you know guntaka though

You may not have an opportunity to reach your gun during an attack. Martial arts would help you defeat an opponent. In addition, martial arts are good exercise and would help make you healthy.

martial arts teaches more than just self defense. discipline etc
consider this.. whenever someone points a gun at another person, it should be for only one reason--to kill that person if the threat level increases. have you fully considered what it takes to do that. unless you have military or police experience, you will hesitate. or shoot to hit a non-lethal area. best outcome for you would be for the offender to run. or that you killed him/her. otherwise, you may die. with marshal arts training you learn how avoid loss of life, and live to tell about it. i am not trained in marshal arts, i suggest ,if interested, speak to an instructor.

What if one day you left your gun at home or lost it or maybe someone disarmed you? Then you could defend yourself without a gun. Plus, guns aren't very good if you are very close to someone. Also, martial arts can get you in very good shape.
