what year is your vehicle? is it carbed or fuel injection?

are you getting spark? i assume the engine is turning over. next you need to determine that it is getting fuel and the ignition system is delivering a spark

if you're not getting spark on a ford fuel injection vehicle a common problem is the ignition control module. if it's bad you don't have a working ignition system end of story.

hard starting you could also clean your idle air control valve if you haven't done so in a while. get a can of throttle body cleaner and clean the inside of that thing between the two holes.

also test that you're getting fuel. the fuel rail that feeds the injectors has a test port on it, looks like the valve/stem on your tire. you can wiggle the stem with your thumb just to see if there's gas.

better yet put a pressure tester on there and make sure it's at least 30-40psi. even if there's gas coming out of there, you need to test for pressure cuz anything less than 30psi there won't be enough fuel pressure for the injectors to function properly and you'll have starting issues. low pressure at the rail could be caused by a bad fuel pressure regulator or vacuum issue or even a really bad fuel filter.

hi...make sure you are getting a spark...take off a plug lead and expose the contact, then get someone to turn over the engine while you hold the lead near to a good earth or bare metal on the engine body...if 'no' spark then would suggest replacing the 'coil'.

also do the same for the fuel flow...expose the top of the carb, turn over the engine and see if petrol sprays into the carb through the main jet...if you can't see, then take off the fuel line and then turn over the engine...this should then pump, if not would suggest fuel pump is knackered.

have your timing belt checked because if it has broken it will never start and it could cause a lot of damage to the engine
