I dont know how many people answering this are American. It doesnt sound like very many of you are. Since I am American, (born in Texas, and thats about as American as you can get) I will give this question a shot.

All the way up to the nineteen fourties women were the home makers, and providers. During the late thirties, and through the fourties the men of the country went to Wolrd War 2. This forced the women to take on many jobs the men could no longer fill. Their is even a logo for women at this time, her name is Rosie the Riviter.
After the men came home from Wolrd War 2 the woman just kept working and this is why the nineteen fifties were so prosperous. this however led to a problem in the nineteen sixties. The children born after the men came home from World War two known as the baby boomers were starting to grow up by the nineteen sixties, and they were being told two differient things. Half of the women they knew were telling other women they were being used as baby making mechines and house maids, and being put down. The other half were saying it is against gods will to leave the hous, and that the man SHOULD be the provider. This led to the womens rights movement of the nineteen sixties.
Throughout the nineteen sixties and seventies women fought for their rights. By the mid eighties women had all the rights men had. By the ninties women started turning twords lesbianism. And this is the trend that continues to this day. If you look at the ratio of lesbians to homosexuals the lesbians greatly outnumber the homosexuals.
It all had to do with World War Two and Rosie the Riviter.

Its just history, and culture,
Jeremy

Traditionally, in most asian cultures, the home is a patriachally structured. With the husband occupying the head position of that house hold.

The women are supposed to submit to their husbands and obey them, and this is something drummed into them from a very young age.

Likewise being feminine fits into the traditional values that a "good" girl should conform to, and again its something they're conditioned to do from young, not just by their parents but by the very behavior going on around them.

That being said, erosion of some of these "values" are occuring, with various forms of media broadcasting to alot of these societies, increasingly, the young slowly drifting away from the old traditional values and are adopting a more independant and freespirited mindset.

So while japanese and indian women might have been submissive and feminine a decade or 2 ago, they're very very rare now.

The feminist movement has convinced women that if they cannot do EVERYTHING a man can do, they aren't good enough. Modern feminism seems to be about making women more "equal" than men. I don't know. It's like lots of women here hate men or something. I really recommend that you read the book "If Men Have the Power, How Come Women Make the Rules." It's free. Download it here: http://www.rulymob.com/

Have a nice day!

It has something to do with feminism gaining ground in the last century and now women feel they have to be dominating and controlling to the point that it's ridiculous.

It's very hard to have an equal relationship. Someone will always be more dominant than the other. In America, the power is shifting more and more towards women.

That's a real good question. My opinion to your question is this: American women has taken crap from men for a long, long time. Men treated their women like dogs, and men have the tendency of taking control over everything leaving women with no choice. Too much verbal, physical, and emotional abuse. Women had enough of that crap. It's time for women to take a stand and to be the real WOMAN that they are. No more crap from men. That's how it should be. If man can do it, a women can too.

We come from a European culture that treated women better and placed them above men in many cases. Women proved better partners than slaves and sex toys. This enabled the west to blow past those other cultures even after starting behind them. Our Warrior past combined with more equal male female relationships created the world we now own.

Cultural, however you can not or at least should not stereotype all females of Japanese and Indian culture as submissive. Not all are. Good luck and God bless****

They have been brough up with different values and have their own assets such as being bold and strong in difficult and hard times. They have not been taught to be submissive but to rule. It's the environment that they get that makes them that way.
